Trying to kickstart your garden? Start with these shooting stars.

This post could probably just be beans. They're the cheetahs of beginner plants. In agriculture, they are often used as nitrogen-fixers to freshen up the soil in between a crop cycle. What happens is, beans grow a kind of bacteria at their roots which converts nitrogen from the air into ammonia, a necessary ingredient for growth.

Collard greens. Famous in the south and a cousin to cabbage, these greens grow exponentially fast (especially in the heat, making them ideal for Florida weather) and provide a rewarding snack in the early days of your garden.

Corn! *Technically* a species of the grass family, corn shoots up like your sixth grade growth spurt. Grow corn with beans and watch a magical symbiotic relationship grow.
