Dragonflies begin their lives as water nymphs, living mostly under water for months to years. They breathe through gills during this time in their life cycle. Once they undergo a semi-metamorphosis, they can migrate across oceans. They will not easily be found in desert or other water-absent landscapes. Loss of wetlands threatens dragonflies.
Water is life, says the dragonfly on the water lily.
